National Honor SocietyThe National Honor Society was established to recognize and encourage academic achievement while developing service, leadership, and similar characteristics essential to citizens of a democracy.

Membership in Eagle Ridge Academy’s chapter of the National Honor Society is an honor that the Academy bestows on selected students, as early as their sophomore year. Members are expected to maintain the high academic achievement and good character, which first earned them admittance into the chapter.

The purpose of JCL is to encourage an interest in and an appreciation of the language, literature, and culture of ancient Greece and Rome and to impart an understanding of the debt of our own culture to that of Classical antiquity.

Junior Classical League is a national organization which consists of 45,771 members in 1,063 chapters throughout the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. By joining Eagle Ridge Academy JCL, you are a part of this national organization and have the opportunity to attend conventions (state and national), apply for scholarships, and be inducted into the National Latin Honor Society.

Eagle Ridge Academy’s chapter of JCL will focus on preparing for conventions and events, fostering friendships, and helping the community.

The National Junior Classical League Creed:

We the members of the Junior Classical League, covenant to hand on the torch of classical civilization in the modern world.

We believe an acquaintance with the civilization of Greece and Rome will help us understand and appraise this world of today,

Which is indebted to the ancient civilization in its government and laws, literature, language and arts.

We affirm the JCL experience develops responsibility, fosters brotherhood, promotes enthusiasm, encourages competition, inspires dedication and enriches our total growth.

Math Team

Math Team will meet on Mondays after school, starting Monday, 9/18, at 3:20 PM in Room 2102. This first session is primarily an informational meeting, with a description of what Math Team is all about and a Q&A session. The activity fee is expected to be about $125. Registration is now available in September. (Note that you need not yet have joined to attend this first session.) The first official practice is Monday, 9/25, 3:20-4:45 PM in Room 2102, and the first meet (competition against other schools) is Monday, 11/6. Our Math Team co-coach, Stephen MacLennan, is a mathematics teacher at Eagle Ridge Academy who founded Math Team in 2015, has also worked as a mathematician and electrical engineer, and absolutely loves math. Eagle Ridge Academy will form a joint team with the International School of Minnesota to compete in Minnesota State High School Mathematics League meets. Generally, Mr. MacLennan will work with the ERA students, and the ISM co-coach will work with ISM students, with occasional joint practices. Each of the two years of its existence, the ERA Math Team has sent students to the Math League State Tournament.
