The 8th Annual Friends of Education Battle of the Books inter-school competition took place at Nova Classical Academy in St. Paul yesterday evening. Eagle Ridge Academy's team - with members Nikitha, Sarayu, Hemant, Jude, and Mila - competed against seven other teams, taking first place in the competition!
The Battle of the Books is a voluntary, extracurricular reading incentive program in which students in grades 3-5 work in teams to read a list of books and then compete against other teams by testing their knowledge of the books they have read. The competition is formatted similarly a game show, with lots of quick, trivia-style questions about the books. The main benefits of the program are that it gets children engaged with a variety of great literature, fosters a love of reading, and promotes a spirit of healthy competition.

Thank you to all who joined us at Eagle Ridge Academy on May 9 for the 12th Annual Donut Dash 5K and Mini-Donut ½ Mile Dash for Kids! It was a perfect Saturday morning of practicing excellence and perseverance with the Eagle Ridge Academy community. This year’s event raised $24,000 to benefit student enrichment at Eagle Ridge Academy and featured over 500 runners and countless supporters. Whether you were cheering on our mini dashers, volunteering to make our morning run smoothly, or racing on the course, we are grateful you could be with us on such a beautiful sunny morning. Happy National Volunteer Appreciation Week, Gryphons! On April 21, Eagle Ridge Academy held a Volunteer Celebration and Appreciation Night to honor our volunteers - who have donated 4,600 hours of their time this year! Attendees enjoyed speeches from Chief Executive Officer Jason Ulbrich, ERA Building Sub/Future Teacher/Parent/Volunteer Extraordinaire Amanda Grant, Director of Development Kelly Schiffman, and ERA Board Member and Founding Teacher Lisa Johnson. They also enjoyed wonderful food provided by Taher Catering, conversation with friends, and a performance from hilarious comedian John DeBoer!
It's important to us to take the time to celebrate the people who do so much behind the scenes at the Academy. Thank you to the ERA PTO and the ERA Booster Club. School of Rhetoric senior Ananya Murugavel has been announced a State Winner of the Minnesota Aspirations in Computing Awards Program (MnAiC) by the National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) and the Minnesota state affiliate! As a State Winner, Ananya has significantly demonstrated interest and aptitude for computing. 💻 Congratulations, Ananya! We are so proud of you.
The Minnesota Aspirations in Computing (MnAiC) program was launched in 2012 to recognize and support high school girls aspiring to achieve college and career success in the technology field. Each year, they honor nearly 100 exceptional students at their spring awards ceremony. These awards celebrate students’ computing achievements, enthusiasm for technology, leadership, community involvement, and resilience. This recognition not only acknowledges student accomplishments, but also fuels their ongoing engagement in STEM, enhances their confidence, and advances diversity in the tech industry. #GoGryphons
