Dear Eagle Ridge Academy Families,
We are thrilled to announce that the Eagle Ridge Academy Playscape and Grounds Commission has been given $100,000 to expand our play area and green space on campus. The expansion will give us the opportunity to maximize our utilization of campus grounds and best serve our students and faculty.
We are in the preliminary stages of the project, so the creative juices are flowing! Our goal is to connect classical education engagement with the use of natural, open-ended areas, and increase physical play opportunities for all our K-12 students. Outdoor exploration and play has been found to encourage a variety of positive results, including cooperation, creativity, stress-relief and decision-making. Though providing an inclusive space for the ERA community is the anchor of this project, we are working within a framework to ensure these top priorities are being met:
- Security and safety
- Priority on more physical activity for K-12
- Educational enrichment
- Environmental sustainability and care
The $100,000 appropriation is from the ERA Affiliated Building Company (ABC), which operates on Eagle Ridge Academy’s behalf since charter schools cannot own their own building per state statute. The funds that come from ABC can only be used for building and outdoor improvements and maintenance. We realize this is a significant amount of money and the Eagle Ridge Academy Playscape and Grounds Commission will be doing our very best to be thorough and thoughtful in planning, communication and execution.
With that being said, as we generate ideas of what could work, we want to hear from you! What are your hopes and dreams for our green space? We invite you to tell us your ideas or submit drawings of what you are envisioning. We encourage parents and students themselves, of all ages, to participate. Please fill out our ERA Playscape and Grounds Dream and Ideas survey or fill out the “Write About Your Outdoor Space Dreams“ and “Draw your Outdoor Space Dreams“ forms and email them to: ERAplayscape@gmail.com by Friday, July 10th. You can forward any drawings or write-ups directly to our e-mail address or take pictures of what you have drawn/written and send them to us via e-mail. We look forward to hearing from you and will respond promptly to any questions, comments, or ideas you may have.
