Eagle Ridge Academy’s Fourth annual Senior College Boot Camp take place on Monday, August 24 after school from 8:00 a.m. – 3:10 p.m. The seminar will be led by Independent Educational Consultant, Beth Kreush.  Attendance is strongly encouraged as the material covered cannot be made up on a one-on-one basis. Eagle Ridge Academy will cover the cost of this event including dinner.  *Please bring your own dinner if you have specific dietary needs.

A perk to attending this event is missing a day in the Spring. You will not need to report to school the day the juniors take the ACT in April. Students may use that time to visit college campuses or do a job shadow.

Where: Upstairs Computer Lab

If your student is not able to make it, please let Ms. Cecka know by Friday, August 20: ncecka@eagleridgeacademy.org

We’re going to cover a lot of ground at the application boot camp and if you prepare well, you’ll get closer to being finished!
Things to prepare:

  • Bring a list of colleges you want to apply to – include reach, target and safety schools. Think about what you might want to study, how far away you want to be and how much money you have budgeted. Talk to your parents about all of it, especially about money – that will help you identify some financial safety schools, which is really important. We’ll spend some time on the list and I’ll be available to give you feedback and suggestions on schools to include.
  • Go to the admissions website for the colleges on your list – what kind of application will they take (Common App? School-specific?); what are the deadlines? Make an account for the application and save the log-in information
  • Bring a list of the activities you’ve done in high school – ask your parents to help you remember!
  • Write down three words to describe you and come up with at least one small story for each. Determined? How about that time you refused to come down from the tree because you wanted to climb down yourself. Curious? What about those toasters you took apart to see how they work? Talk to family and friends to identify the words and the stories.
  • Bring your questions! What are you worried about? What have you been wondering about admissions? We’ll try to address as many of these as we can. The afternoon/evening will be a mix of short presentations and work time. I’ll move around the room and help students individually as well as provide answers and information to the group as a whole.
