Classical Education
The greatest thinkers throughout the ages, including Archimedes, Galileo, Sir Isaac Newton, Shakespeare, and Thomas Jefferson, all had one thing in common: a classical education. A classical education represents a return to a time-tested educational philosophy that was standard in the United States and the western world until the early 20th century. In recent years, classical schools have revived across the nation, with amazing results.
Classical education utilizes: A systematic, building-block approach to learning; A focus on core academic subjects and the study of some of the greatest works in the history of the western world; historical timeframes to structure learning (Ancients, Medieval, Modern); Integration across subject disciplines; and A pattern of education known as the Trivium
o Grammar Stage in Grades 1-4 focuses on acquistition of knowledge facts to build comprehension. o Logic Stage in Grades 5-8 concentrates on achieving a higher level of understanding of the organization and relationships among previously acquired facts, allowing for application and analysis. o Rhetoric Stage in Grades 9-12 emphasizes problem-solving and communication skills, in both oral and written forms, thereby developing the ability to synthesize, express clearly, and evaluate ideas.
